🧠 Thoughts

This book made me tear up a little in so many places because it is real, honest and inspiring. Before reading the book, I excepted the story to be a light-hearted one. But when I read the book, I realised that it is so much more as it hits you with a lot of truths and reality. I was very invested in the characters as they were very real (as real as a book character can get).

The below might contain some spoilers:

This book surrounds itself around the topic of domestic violence. Before reading this book, I had a rough idea of how victims of domestic violence feel. However, I didn't sympathise with people who refuse to leave their abusive spouse because just how hard is it to just end things when they are suffering so much? But when I read this book, I got to see a point of view of a women who got abuse by her spouse and I realised that if it were me, I wouldn't leave the cycle of abuse. This made me realise that people don't want to leave their abusive spouse because if they just endure their abuse for a short time, they can continue to have better times with them.

Below are some of my favourite quotes:

"There is no such thing as bad people. We’re all just people who sometimes do bad things." - Ryle

"I think about how sometimes, no matter how convinced you are that your life will turn out a certain way, all that certainty can be washed away with a simple change in tide." - Lily

“We’d just been two people who helped each other when we needed it and got our hearts fused together along the way." - Lily

"Imagine all the people you meet in your life. There are so many. They come in like waves, trickling in and out with the tide. Some waves are much bigger and make more of an impact than others. Sometimes the waves bring with them things from deep in the bottom of the sea and they leave those things tossed onto the shore. Imprints against the grains of sand that prove the waves had once been there, long after the tide recedes." - Lily

"Preventing your heart from forgiving someone you love is actually a hell of a lot harder than simply forgiving them." -Lily

"Maybe I could put up with him when he’s at his worst just so I can have him when he’s at his best.” - Lily

"Fifteen seconds. That’s all it takes to completely change everything about a person. Fifteen seconds that we’ll never get back." - Lily

"Just keep swimming" - Ellen DeGeneres
